Slow It Down

More rest. More gratitude. More Jesus. A simple but IMPORTANT message.

Transcript
Speaker:

Good morning everybody, and

Happy Monday to you all.

2

:

This is episode 17 of I Can't.

3

:

He Can, and I am so, so grateful

that you are here today.

4

:

If you are on your way to work, I wish

you a safe drive and an amazing, amazing

5

:

day, and let us pray for your day.

6

:

Father, thank you so much.

7

:

Thank you so much for waking up.

8

:

Every single person that is listening

to these words right now, thank you

9

:

so much for giving them the want and

the heart to just tune in day in and

10

:

day out whenever they listen to this.

11

:

For the people that come back every

Monday or just for the people that

12

:

are here for the first time, God.

13

:

God, I pray that you use them in some way

today and that you use these words that

14

:

I am about to say God, and that you just.

15

:

Speak to their heart and

speak to their soul Lord.

16

:

I truly just pray that they

can be a blessing to others.

17

:

And so, father, I pray that they make it

safe to work, that they make it safe home,

18

:

and that they can just find rest in you.

19

:

God, I pray all of these things in

your mighty and holy name, Lord.

20

:

Amen.

21

:

All right, my friends.

22

:

So today the episode that I originally

had planned for you was of course an

23

:

amazing busty chat with Brandy, However,

there's just so much that we have to do

24

:

and sometimes other things take priority

and that's okay, and that's okay.

25

:

But we will be here next week with

one of our amazing talks and just

26

:

kind of checking in with each other

and seeing what it is that we've

27

:

been up to in the past few weeks.

28

:

So I can't wait.

29

:

For you guys to hear what we have

for you and what is coming up.

30

:

So stay tuned for that next Monday.

31

:

And with that said, if there was a

recurring theme for me this week that

32

:

was the idea of slowing things down

and by that I mean taking a break,

33

:

listening to your body, knowing when

to just not be busy, and in the process

34

:

trying to listen to God, really taking

that time to just sit back, close your

35

:

eyes, whatever way it is that you pray,

that you talk to the Lord, just kind of

36

:

slowing it down and remember to be in

God's presence And this thing was not

37

:

just something that I did, you know,

it's not that I tried to slow down.

38

:

I actually had a really busy week.

39

:

Um, it was very, very exhausting,

honestly, today, especially after worship.

40

:

I'm going to church.

41

:

For some reason, I'm just

always so, so drained.

42

:

However, I also heard this, the need

to slow down from others around me,

43

:

so this is a friendly reminder to you.

44

:

Slow down, slow down, take it slow.

45

:

Don't always feel the need to

be busy, but like I said before,

46

:

it is the most important thing

to listen to God in the process.

47

:

Now my friend Heidi.

48

:

She actually shared a story on

her Instagram today, and it said

49

:

this, if the devil can't make

you bad, he will make you busy.

50

:

I'm not sure where she got

that from, where she read it,

51

:

but those words spoke to me.

52

:

It was so loud on my

screen, and it's so true.

53

:

It's so true because many, many

times we are wrapped up in a daily

54

:

routine and we forget to even

be grateful to have woken up.

55

:

The devil is a liar.

56

:

The devil is lonely and he wants

whatever company he could get.

57

:

So do not for a minute, drop your guard

and understand that being still praying,

58

:

having a Sabbath or resting are from God.

59

:

Those things are from God, and

you need to understand that.

60

:

You need to always remember

it and keep it close to you.

61

:

Even Jesus rested and prayed alone.

62

:

So can you imagine what would've happened

if, if he didn't do those things?

63

:

Even the devil.

64

:

At one point, the Bible says he tried to

tempt him, but he couldn't be tempted.

65

:

And I'm pretty sure it's because

Jesus, of course, you know he

66

:

is Jesus, but he was locked in.

67

:

He was always locked in to the

Father and he knew his limits.

68

:

He rested when he had to, and he was

always in prayer above all things.

69

:

He was always in prayer.

70

:

Now you guys already know that Matthew

:

71

:

However, today I'm gonna read a little

bit further from that and as Matthew

72

:

11 verses 28 through 30, it says, come

to me all you who labor and are heavy

73

:

laden and I will give you rest now verses

29 through 30, say, take my yoke upon

74

:

you and learn from me for I am gentle.

75

:

And lowly and heart, and you

will find rest for your soul.

76

:

For my yoke is easy

and my burden is light.

77

:

Not only does Jesus say that he

will give us rest and take away your

78

:

anxieties or problems, whatever it is

that we are feeling, but he says that

79

:

he is lowly of heart, meaning that

he's humble and he's of a submissive

80

:

attitude and he will not burden you.

81

:

Jesus is not there to burden you.

82

:

He is there to help you.

83

:

He is.

84

:

Easy.

85

:

And who doesn't like

something that's easy?

86

:

Honestly, an easy day at work,

an easy day with children.

87

:

I mean, that is that

overall for me, honestly.

88

:

But imagine just the peace and

the calm that you feel when you

89

:

praying, surrender to the Lord.

90

:

That is what he is saying

that he will do for you.

91

:

So I say rest.

92

:

Lay your burdens on him.

93

:

Don't make any plans for the weekend.

94

:

Stay in your bed a little

longer than normal.

95

:

Spend time with your loved ones.

96

:

Pray, worship.

97

:

Read your Bible.

98

:

Your Bible is calling you.

99

:

The word is just yearning to get in

your soul and just be repeated in

100

:

your mind, even if it is to yourself.

101

:

Read your Bibles, even if it's 30 minutes.

102

:

That's all that you

need to give your soul.

103

:

Rest.

104

:

Our souls are calling for it.

105

:

There is nothing in this world that

can give us the rest that we feel

106

:

like prayer time with Jesus and

reading our Bibles, reading the

107

:

word, reading the holy scriptures.

108

:

So if you have that chance,

do that 30 minutes, even 15

109

:

if you don't have 30 minutes.

110

:

I'm sure that you do because we make time

for other things sometimes, but prioritize

111

:

a small portion of your day for the word.

112

:

Now, before I close today, the second part

of my podcast is dedicated to gratitude.

113

:

Gratitude for the little, gratitude

for the much, and even gratitude during

114

:

trials, gratitude during the times

where we really don't know how we're

115

:

going to make it out of that moment.

116

:

But guess what?

117

:

You're listening right now.

118

:

You made it whether you believed

in God or not during that process,

119

:

during that trial, you made it.

120

:

All those years of abuse, all those

years of depression, all those years of

121

:

walking down the right path, all those

years in an unhappy marriage, in a really

122

:

crappy relationship, all those years of

trying to please your friends, people

123

:

that really had no interest in anything

good for you, but just them, them, them.

124

:

You made it.

125

:

You are here.

126

:

And praise God for that.

127

:

All.

128

:

Glory to God for you being

here and being present.

129

:

And if you are present, give him praise.

130

:

I've said just pray, talk to the

Lord, have a relationship with him.

131

:

But even if the first thing you do is

just open your eyes and say, thank you,

132

:

Lord, that means more to him than maybe a

prayer, because he knows that's what you.

133

:

Are going to give him.

134

:

That is from your heart,

and that's all he wants.

135

:

He wants your heart.

136

:

And if that's what you have to

give today, then that's okay.

137

:

But don't forget to have

gratitude for being here.

138

:

And too many times we

forget to be thankful.

139

:

We open our eyes, we put our feet on

the ground, and we brush our teeth

140

:

and we go to the bathroom, we get the

kids ready and we just start our day

141

:

and we don't even say thank you, Lord.

142

:

Just as I said before, we are

consumed by the daily routine, the

143

:

busy life that we live, and we don't

make time for any of those things.

144

:

The thank you lords.

145

:

Lord, thank you for the

little health that I have.

146

:

Some of you may have health issues.

147

:

Some of you may have had an accident.

148

:

Maybe you have a heart condition.

149

:

Maybe you have diabetes, Ms.

150

:

Like me, multiple sclerosis.

151

:

Anything.

152

:

But you know what?

153

:

You can use all of those situations,

any of those health issues, something

154

:

that your family is going through.

155

:

You can use any situation that was

given to you to glorify the Lord.

156

:

And how about a new job, A new

opportunity, let's say thank

157

:

you, Lord, for this entry

position that you awarded me.

158

:

Lord, thank you for this car that gets

me to my crappy job and back home even.

159

:

Lord, thank you for the same old

food that I eat day in and day

160

:

out that I am tired of having

because I can't afford any better.

161

:

My friends, you need to say

thank you for what you have.

162

:

Thank you that you are in this moment.

163

:

And I know that I may sound a little

redundant right now, but this world is

164

:

crazy and it's also crazy expensive.

165

:

And those things are burdens in our

hearts and sometimes those burdens take

166

:

away from what we truly need to see.

167

:

And that's the big picture.

168

:

And the big picture is.

169

:

That God has got us.

170

:

He has our back.

171

:

He is there with us, and if we

are here, he has not not been

172

:

here a single day in our lives.

173

:

We have purpose.

174

:

We have another opportunity to

just continue and push forward.

175

:

So let's be grateful and have

Thanksgiving for all of the things

176

:

that we have in this very moment.

177

:

And you know, there are also some

people who unfortunately have to choose.

178

:

Bills to pay week after week.

179

:

I know that was me a few years ago.

180

:

That was me a few years ago, and

I'm not saying I don't struggle

181

:

now, but you need to stop right now.

182

:

Stop right now and praise the father.

183

:

Father, thank you for your provision

and not just thank you for what he's

184

:

given you, but use what you have

to glorify him and do for others.

185

:

If you have the means,

help those around you.

186

:

Help your neighbor, whatever it is that

you can with whatever means you have, try.

187

:

And if you don't, that's okay.

188

:

I promise you that even.

189

:

When you don't have enough and you still

try to help others, even if it's with a

190

:

word, with a prayer, things don't always

have to be monetary, but the simple

191

:

sharing of your words of gratitude and

your love for God and what he's done

192

:

for you will do more than any amount

of money can ever do your praise and

193

:

your Thanksgiving will plant that seed

in someone else's heart and one day.

194

:

One day when they finally have enough

for themselves to provide for themselves

195

:

because the Lord blessed them, they're

going to think of you, of that person

196

:

who praised the Lord during their

trials, and that person that showed

197

:

gratitude and love for God, even when

they didn't have enough for themselves.

198

:

And if that doesn't speak of Jesus,

I really don't know what does.

199

:

you can pay someone with your kind

words, like I had said before, and with

200

:

love, How, how beautiful is it that

you are able to do that for someone?

201

:

And Jesus did that for us too.

202

:

Jesus didn't have much.

203

:

He came from Nazareth.

204

:

He had a very meek life, and he

didn't have anything other than

205

:

the clothes on his back many times.

206

:

So imagine how beautiful it is that

you can just pay someone back with

207

:

kind words, love and even prayer year.

208

:

this is two Corinthians chapter nine,

verse six through 15, and it says.

209

:

But this, I say, he who sows sparingly

will also reap sparingly, and he who sows

210

:

bountifully will also reap bountifully.

211

:

So let each one give as he purposes

in his heart, not grudgingly or of

212

:

necessity for God loves a cheerful giver.

213

:

And God is able to make all grace

abound toward you, that you always

214

:

having all sufficiency and all things

may have an abundance for every good

215

:

work As it is written, he has dispersed

abroad, he has given to the poor.

216

:

His righteousness endures forever.

217

:

Now me, he who supplies seed to the sower

and bread for food supply and multiply

218

:

the seed you have sown and increase

the fruits of your righteousness while

219

:

you are enriched in everything for all

liberality, which causes thanksgiving

220

:

through us to God for the administration

of this service, not only supplies the

221

:

needs of the saints, but also is abounding

through many Thanksgiving to God.

222

:

While through the proof of this ministry,

they glorify God for the obedience

223

:

of your confession to the Gospel of

Christ and for your liberal sharing

224

:

with them and all men, and by their

prayer for you who long for you because

225

:

of the exceeding grace of God in you.

226

:

Thanks be to God for his

indescribable gift, my friends.

227

:

you can take that literally.

228

:

But in my heart, I just understood that as

229

:

That righteousness, that goodness

that is in you will endure forever.

230

:

Meaning it will make a lasting

impression and it will stay with people.

231

:

You are supplying a seed to the sower.

232

:

A person that can go and take

that seed and do with it something

233

:

different, something more.

234

:

So just imagine.

235

:

Just imagine.

236

:

You know, they always say Be kind.

237

:

Yes, yes.

238

:

Be kind.

239

:

Use your words for good.

240

:

Use your prayers for good.

241

:

Give whatever you can and do it for good.

242

:

Don't do it just to boast

and put it on social media.

243

:

No, do it because you are doing it with

a good heart and good intentions, and

244

:

when it is with a good heart and good

intentions, that will endure forever.

245

:

So my friends, with all these things

that I have discussed, I really

246

:

hope that you take the time to rest.

247

:

the time to pray, and I really, really

hope that you take the time to just be

248

:

grateful for the moment that you are in.

249

:

whatever season of your life

you are dealing with right now.

250

:

I truly hope that you can see the good

in it, even if it's a trial, even if

251

:

you are not in the best financial moment

of your life, if you're struggling,

252

:

find the words to say, thank you, God,

253

:

Time flies and six months from now

you may be in another position,

254

:

but just change your point of

view and say thank you, Lord.

255

:

Give him praise.

256

:

Pray on it.

257

:

Stay in your word.

258

:

And if you seek him, he is going

to listen and he's going to grab

259

:

you by your hand and he is going to

point you in that direction that you

260

:

need to go to get out of that pit.

261

:

So my friends, stay strong.

262

:

Endure.

263

:

Love God the way that he loves you,

and I will see you guys next week.

264

:

I hope that this has blessed you.

265

:

Take care of my friends.

To whoever reads this:
I'm glad you're here and I hope you stay a while. There is something I need to give back to the world - and to you.

That 'something' is my story, my life and my words that were once marked by pain, but are now marked by love and a new found faith in Christ. But hold it right there! Do not be quick to judge. While the root of all my talks are founded in the Bible - do not mistake what I have to say for 'unremarkable' or 'not relatable'.

My story is different than yours. However, if there is one thing we 100% have in common, it's that God has always been with us. If you agree - stick around. If you DON'T agree - stick around too. Let me show the unbeliever, the doubter, and the unsure person, how God has always been there.
